ROOP → POOP → POOP — find the shortest path

How to Play Poople

Get to "POOP" in as few steps as possible. Each word must be exactly one letter different from the last.

01

Read the starting word

A random four-letter word appears at the top of the board. This is your starting point. You can only change one letter at a time to form a new valid word.

02

Guess a new word

Type any four-letter word that differs by exactly one letter from the current word. Each guess moves you one step closer to the target.

03

Each guess must be one letter different

You can change any one letter to another, but the result must be a real English word. The game validates each guess against its dictionary.

04

Reach POOP to win

The goal is always the same: transform the starting word into POOP. Track your guesses, beat the shortest path, and come back tomorrow for a new puzzle.

Why Poople Is Different

A daily word game with a simple constraint that makes every puzzle a fresh challenge.

A real puzzle, not just a word list

Most word games ask you to find words from a set of letters. Poople asks you to navigate a path from one word to another, one letter at a time. Every decision affects your next move.

One target keeps the game focused

Every daily puzzle shares the same destination: POOP. The starting word changes each day, so the strategy and the shortest path are always different.

Shortest path is the real challenge

Finding any path to POOP is satisfying. Finding the shortest path is the puzzle that keeps players coming back. Compare your score with the optimal solution revealed each day.

Built by the family, for the family

Poople was invented by a dad to keep his kids occupied on long road trips. It turned into a daily habit that the whole family shares.

Frequently Asked Questions

The fastest answers to the questions people ask first.

Who invented Poople?

Poople was invented by a dad on a family road trip. He wanted a word game that was simple enough for his kids to play but challenging enough to keep everyone engaged. The name and the target word come from the same sense of humor that made the car laugh.

What counts as a valid word?

Any real English four-letter word that differs from the current word by exactly one letter. The game uses a standard dictionary to validate guesses. Proper nouns, abbreviations, and obscure words are excluded.

How is the daily puzzle chosen?

Each day at midnight, a new random four-letter starting word is selected. The same word goes to every player, so everyone solves the same daily puzzle. The shortest known path is revealed after you complete the puzzle.

Is there a time limit?

No time limit. Take as long as you need to find the shortest path. Most players finish in a few minutes, but the puzzle stays available until midnight.

Can I play previous puzzles?

Only the current daily puzzle is available for play. Yesterday's puzzle and its shortest path are shown in the archive for reference.

What does the average extra guesses stat mean?

Average extra guesses measures how many more guesses you make beyond the shortest known path. If the shortest path is 5 guesses and you take 7, your extra guesses for that round is 2. Lower is better.
